More intelligence agencies and more spying on American social networks

Read Time:4 Minute, 27 Second

Not a while ago, we, as well as Jack Posobiec, expressed some suppositions, which have been completely justified. It has become known that FBI agents have been working on various media and social networks, including Twitter, for years. It is not even surprising that the web of lies turned out to be much wider than it might have seemed at the first stage, and a big thank you goes out to conservative activists and honest journalists. Following Twitter, both Facebook and Meta were at the center of the scandal. Elon Musk’s recent revelations have exposed the close relationship between Twitter and the FBI. FBI agents did not just put pressure on the social network or demanded to censor the content, many of them were employed on Twitter, and made decisions to block the accounts of figures they did not like. Hot on the heels of these scandals, the press began to take an interest in Facebook’s inner workings, and it quickly became clear that if Twitter is oriented towards the FBI, then Facebook is connected to the CIA.

In fact, smart people were aware of the connection between Mark Zuckerberg and the intelligence services back in 2018-2019. Even then, when Facebook introduced the mandatory collection of personal data for using the Messenger of the social network, it led to understandable critics. The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, published evidence a year earlier that Facebook was spying on users on behalf of the official services of the United States, including the CIA. The owner of the social network, under pressure from evidence, was forced to admit active cooperation with the American intelligence services, but as expected, denied accusations of espionage. Zuckerberg called it a “response to requests” from the U.S. authorities, when the social network provided not only personal data of people, but also their correspondence. Then Assange called Facebook “a terrifying espionage machine” because people trust social networks with too many details of their personal lives without regard to the consequences. Finally, the main enemy of the U.S. also said that Facebook is the most complete database of people with their names, addresses, location, family ties, relationships, and communication with each other. All this data is gathered and accumulated in the United States and is available at any time to American intelligence.

Zuckerberg justified the leak of such confidential data by saying that Facebook’s desire to collect personal data of users is justified by the integration of Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. However, then it was already obvious to everyone that it was not necessary to put the words “Facebook” and “security” together, since the company’s structures admitted being transparent to the U.S. intelligence services, which could obtain personal data on users with a simple request. For example, Assange proved that the American authorities do not even need judicial permission to access user data, because the company willingly shares them, although, according to Facebook management, some “legal grounds” should be legally necessary. These ridiculous excuses were not believed, but paradoxically such people were branded as followers of the “conspiracy theory” and to be simply paranoid.

Nonetheless, for one moment it turned out that “the paranoids” were completely right. Indeed, a lot of retired intelligence officers are now employed in the social network, and for the most part, they are engaged precisely in the “fight against disinformation”, which is in the end the same espionage and censorship that their colleagues from the FBI were engaged on Twitter. Representatives of the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Atlantic Council and the Pentagon also work for Facebook. It is not surprising that it was on Facebook that a large propaganda campaign was carried out with the money of the Pentagon, in which about 60 thousand Americans were involved. A similar situation was observed at Google and Alphabet, where dozens of analysts work for the CIA. The leadership of Reddit also includes people from the Atlantic Council and even in the U.S. division of TikTok, which is accused of working for communist China, there are representatives of NGOs funded by NATO and the State Department.

By law, the CIA does not have the right to conduct operations in the United States. That’s why, it was “outsourced” to the same Facebook that was flooded with ex-CIA agents. They have already privately been engaged in censorship before the elections in 2020 in the interests of their department. This work was clearly not carried out in the interests of U.S. citizens who pay for the work of all these “spies”, and not in accordance with the ideals and values of democracy. The current scandal about the connections of American intelligence services and social networks is a virtual repetition of the revelations which happened 45 years ago, when the introduction of CIA agents into journalistic editorial offices around the world has been made public. Elon Musk is already calling for a major congressional investigation to publicize all the facts and actions of the special services and social services in establishing censorship and illegal identity theft of ordinary Americans. We should wish him good luck even if Musk should not rush into this specific case. Indeed, with the development of the situation, new similar cases may soon be revealed, which he will be able to add to his evidence folder.
