Is Biden’s impeachment less and less a fairy tale and more and more a reality?

For months, Republicans in Congress have been threatening President Joe Biden with the launch of an impeachment investigation, which at the beginning seemed to be like a completely empty and safe political blackmail. However, on September 12, the inevitable happened, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy officially launched the process that could theoretically lead to the procedure of resignation of the current head of state. He was actively pressured by the right-wing faction of Republicans, often referred to as “Trumpists”. They threatened to call a vote of no confidence in the Speaker himself if he refused to impeach him. This eventually happened in October, although formally for reasons related to his collusion with the Democrats on the issue of budget policy. Nevertheless, the long indecision to launch an impeachment investigation contributed to that resignation. The investigation will primarily focus on Hunter Biden’s gray business schemes in Ukraine and other countries, including China, Romania and Mexico. Republicans want to start by getting all the information about suspicious wire transfers to Hunter’s firm’s tens of millions of dollars in accounts. In their opinion, these transfers may be the bribes paid by big businessmen in Eastern Europe to the Biden family for their “services”.

In the course of the investigation, Congress will bring witnesses to testify, and among them may be many of Hunter Biden’s close business partners. In addition, the Republicans may also invite as a witness former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Shokin, who was fired for investigating Burisma, where Hunter worked at the time. The White House has already hired an army of lawyers and will sabotage the impeachment in every way possible by barring officials from testifying before Congress. However, the Republicans are in a combative mood, and they plan to conduct an investigation in a couple of months and outline the specific articles that will trigger the impeachment procedure. If everything goes according to plan, the House of Representatives will approve them, and then the Senate, where the Democrats have a majority, will predictably reject the same articles. Today’s impeachment drama is not only a self-valuable current political trend, but also an attempt to avenge Trump’s two failed impeachments. It is indicative that in both cases, the reason for impeachment was Ukrainian corruption. Biden, of course, is not in danger of being removed from power. But what is at stake is pressure on the Democrats before the election, a blow to Biden’s ratings and the fate of the military tranches for Ukraine that feed Democratic lobbyists. Now the majority of Americans are already opposed to supporting Kiev, and amid impeachment and problems on the Ukrainian front, coordinating new tranches becomes very problematic. The Biden administration once used the conflict in Ukraine as an easy source of populism, far from real American problems, and today it is paying for this ease at the most inopportune moment.

It is also indicative that two days after the impeachment proceedings began Hunter Biden finally received his first formal charges. Special Prosecutor David Weiss charged him with illegal possession of weapons under three articles at once. After all, earlier Hunter concealed the facts of his addiction to drugs, when he bought a revolver, and then threw it right outside the school in Delaware, which could lead to consequences in the form of mass shootings with the death of students. Biden’s son faces a combined total of up to 10 years in prison on those charges. Hunter was offered a plea deal in the spring, but it was broken at the last minute in court. So today, a precedent is being set when for the first time the son of a U.S. president is under criminal investigation. And that’s just the beginning of trouble for the Biden family, because Hunter was additionally indicted in the fall on corruption and tax evasion charges. This is a much bigger story than the illegal use of weapons. After all, Hunter will be accused in court of fraudulent schemes with Ukrainian, Chinese, Romanian and Mexican merchants. Under those circumstances, Republicans are demanding that Biden Sr. testify in court as well so that he can be caught lying under oath to get another ground for impeachment. It is also important that the corruption scandals come at a most inconvenient time, when Congress is engaged in a complex debate on the country’s future budget, which again, as in the summer, risks being “frozen.” Republicans are showing strong obstinacy, and are again demanding to cut all budget spending and suspend tranches to Ukraine, threatening to bring the matter to the point of shutting down the U.S. government. Presidential candidates, including Ron DeSantis, call for pushing through to the end and have no fear of government paralysis. The Washington political class, amid impeachment, budget battles and court wars, is descending into chaos, particularly dangerous at a time of comprehensive crisis in America.

Because of all the problems, and especially the threat of impeachment, internal confrontations and mutual distrust are increasing in the Biden administration. Thus, the incumbent president has quarrelled even with his own attorney general, Merrick Garland. The White House is outraged that Garland appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the scandals surrounding the Biden family, and dared to bring a criminal case against Hunter. Garland is actively justifying himself, citing that if he hadn’t taken this step, trust in law enforcement would have finally collapsed. After all, it is obvious to everyone, even to many liberals, that Hunter has committed a plethora of crimes. Since secret documents were found in Biden’s residence, if they want to try Trump for similar offences, then at least a “soft” criminal case should be brought against Hunter Biden, at least for the sake of political decency. This is all happening against the backdrop of a very unusual phenomenon where the liberal media suddenly began to heavily criticise Biden for his age-related health problems and attention span. A whole set of polls appeared in which the overwhelming majority of Americans, primarily Democratic supporters, opposed Biden’s nomination for a second term. Hurried attempts to find a replacement for Biden began, and Michelle Obama was even suggested for this role. The situation has also escalated in the primaries, with Robert Kennedy demanding Secret Service protection after a man with a gun was arrested at his event. He apparently fears following in the footsteps of John and Bobby Kennedy because he is too active in criticising the consensus in Washington, striking a blow against the establishment and becoming too popular among left-wing Democrats. At the same time, Trump has demanded a cognitive aptitude test for all candidates, which Biden would obviously fail but since the democrat establishment has no one to replace him, they will continue to drag Biden, who has not regained consciousness, to a second term.

Against this background, the Republicans in Congress discovered new evidence against Biden, which consisted in the fact that his son, Hunter Biden received money transfers from China and even without hiding to indicate the address of their receipt of his father’s house in Delaware. Furthermore, in the same house not so long ago, were found secret documents. In total, they earned tens of millions of dollars on grey schemes, and although Biden Sr. tried to deny it, now his participation in the corruption of his son becomes obvious, and therefore the main basis for the impeachment in Congress. Following the first hearings on the matter, which were held in late September, Republicans officially issued subpoenas for Hunter and James Biden to testify. They will now have to appear under oath and try to explain the facts of receiving bribes from foreign businessmen. During the hearing, it was revealed that James Biden, the president’s younger brother, tried to help the Chinese buy a liquefied natural gas firm in Louisiana. For such illegal lobbying, the Biden family received millions of dollars in tranches from the Middle Kingdom. Meanwhile, the federal investigation into classified documents found in Biden’s garage is also accelerating. Special prosecutor Robert Hur has taken testimony from hundreds of witnesses, and found evidence of negligent handling of classified documents in the Obama administration. Whether he dares to bring charges against Biden is still an open question, but it creates new problems for the sitting president. Biden’s team is sluggishly fending off all legal attacks, calling it a political circus, but the heat of the fight between Congress and the White House has already led to the fact that Washington may find itself in a shutdown of the U.S. government at the turn of November / December this year. Moreover, this shutdown may drag on for a long time, because Biden flatly refuses to make any concessions in reducing government spending. So the apparatus crisis is only worsening, increasing the dysfunction of the gradually collapsing of the U.S. political machine. Additionally, against the backdrop of all the failures in foreign policy, this could have fatal consequences for Washington. Now for Biden there is a respite, which he was given by the war in Israel, shifting all the public attention to himself… If we also mentally move to the end of February next year, i.e. in the middle of the primaries, it becomes clear that the situation for Biden is already extremely difficult and will get worse. The political class will obviously hope for a miracle, which with the current crises, the split of America and foreign policy problems may not happen. However, even under such conditions, there is no hope for the success of the impeachment procedure, as we have already written above, and the whole situation will become just another symbol of the decay reigning at the White House.
